Reccomend recent movie that you have seen in this thread.

Shaun Of The Dead - If you like English or a Dark comedy you get 2 in 1. It is just a funny as hell movie and a must see for anyone over the age of 13. The comedy is so funny. A must see.

Minority Report - Tom Cruise and Steven Speilberg as the director. A very suspensful, futuristic, sci fi, mind tingler. Story is fantastic and the acting is great. Also features Colin Farrell in it too.

From Dusk till Dawn - Excellent movie. Directed by Rober Rodriguez (unsure how to spell it correctly), stars George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino.

Story : The story begins with brothers Seth Gecko (Clooney) and Richard Gecko (Tarantino) on the run from the law. Headed to Mexico, they encounter the Fuller family, whom they take hostage, and then make their way across the border.

In Mexico, they must meet a contact, Carlos (Marin) at a bar called the "Titty Twister" which is open "from dusk till dawn". Carlos will meet the brothers there just before dawn. However, once inside, the Gecko brothers and their hostages, the Fuller family, discover that the keepers of this establishment are actually vampires, and they must fight them off until dawn in order to survive.http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/48/Dusktilldawn.jpg

I recommend the film "Running Scared". It stars Paul Walker and I think it's one of the coolest films of the past 2 years. So check it out if you ever get the chance. It's like Scarface mixed with a little Kill Bill. Enjoy.

3 Really good movies that I would Recommened are:

The Day After Tomorrow-This was a movie that scored at the box office last year and I see why. The effx in this movie are just unbelieveably outstanding!

Paparazzi-This movie also quickly became one of my favorites with the action and suspense provided. It's about 4 assholes(The Paparazzi) who won't stop at nothing to make the newest sensation Bo(Played by cole hauser a.k.a. the bad guy from 2 fast 2 furious) crack under the pressure. This movie had cameos by great stars. And to top it off Mel Gibson directs the film!

Never Die Alone-This flim is strictly badd ass! DMX plays the ruthless and Evil King David (who's performance stood out more than I thought it would do) who made plenty mistakes in the past but unfortinuately when he comes back to correct them things go from bad to worse. David Arquette, Michael Ealy & Clifton Powell also stars in this film about drugs, sex, money and best of all an ending that will leave you breathless!

I wasn't all that impressed with Wolf Creek. Something about that movie just didn't sit right with me. I didn't find it scary at all, and at points seemed to be all over the place. Before watching it I was psyched with all the good stuff I read about it, but was really let down.

Empire Records, very funny film.

The Legend of Twilight Gemini

An anime movie of the Lupin III series, what this movie lacks in animation quality and story, it makes up for in... uh... well, it's not bad. Basically an over-long TV episode, but it also includes animated nudity. And this movie gets credit for being the first anime I've seen that actually explains why one of the characters is androgynous - he actually IS a transvestite.

Not much to write home about, but it's a light and fluffy time killer.

Wow, American History X was just breathtaking to me. It revolves around Neo Nazis and their role in society and how deep racism still is. It's by no means a racist film, it just explores that belief. I haven't seen it in forever so sorry if i screw up the plot a bit. The basis is this guy is Nazi and kills any body of different race and sexual or ethnic beliefs. There is one scene in this movie that made me throw up. A black man tried to steal his car, so he beat him senseless and made him lay down belly down and put his mouth on a curb and stomped on the back of it, prying his jaw off, and I literally threw up. I was disgusted that anyone would ever put that in a movie but looking back on it it really put things in perspective. The man is jailed and finds Christianity while there, seeing how wrong he was. His little brother (maybe son?) grew up watching him hate, and when is released from jail his brother has taken on his ways, and now hes doing anything he can do to show him the errors of his ways so he wont end up in jail. The entire movie was fantastic and really touching. 4.5 * out of 5*. Watch it, though its not for the feint of heart.

One more I forgot to mention that is prolly the funniest movie Ive ever seen is Office Space. God that movie was hilarious, and Milton is like the greatest character ever.LMAO "Um, yeah, we were takin a look through the records and couldn't find anything on this guy Milton. It turns out he was layed off for five years and nobody ever told him." I just watched the SE DVD and I HIGHLY reccomend it. The soundtrack is so random but great. They will be like doing TPS Reports in their cubicle and a rap song that always talks about "Gangsata Ass ********s" will be in the background lol.

'Wonder Boys', starring Michael Douglas, Tobey Maguire, Frances McDormand, Katie Holmes and Robert Downie Jr.

And, 'Laurel Canyon', with Christian Bale, Kate Beckinsale and Frances McDormand.

Both are drama type films. I like them so much because they're much like an "everyday happening" film. Good stuff.

I saw Collateral recently, and I must say that the movie was quite good... up until the ending. I won't give spoilers, but when Cruise is about to make his last hit on his list, it went all downhill from there into becoming your standard action flick fare.

But this was the first performance by Tom Cruise that actually impressed me

DareDevil : Directors cut. Is so much better than the actual movie. The plot now makes since and we see more of matt Murdock as a detective and lawyer. It's now a Daredevil film and not a Electra Prequel.

Well ya Suf I think you should give it a chance but heres more info about it and maybe after I say this it will coonvince a little, It's like Super Troopers in the respect that it's a good comedy without all the moral of the story/underlying theme b.s., which is usually typical in the recent Happy Madison movies. It's like Waiting if you've seen that, it's just a good comedy movie that doesn't make you think a hell of a lot about this or that, it's just a good movie that keeps you entertained throughout.

Little Miss Sunshine. This movie is great. It's not a fluck that it got a best picture nomination for the academy awards. It deserves to be nominated. And I'll go as far as to say that it should win. It's a movie that you can watch over and over again and not get tired of. The character development is great and very funny. The music is perfect and it sets the tone for the movie. The whole movie is mixed with laughter and drama. That's what you want out of a best picture nominee. The other best picture nominee I've seen was The Departed. But I like Little Miss Sunshine better. I've yet to see the other three, Babel, Letters From Iwo Jima and The Queen. So I can't really declare it the best yet, but I think if I see the other three I'll still probably pick this one over the others. That's how good it is. I highly recommend seeing it if you haven't already. I'm not gonna spoil anything. Just get the movie if you haven't seen it. You won't be disappointed. I guarantee it!!!

I have one of the most gigantic list of movies you have to see...movies you MUST see, I swear. If there's one thing I can do in this world, it's making a movie or seeing which one is good or bad and for what reason. Here are, for me, the 10 movies you absolutely MUST see before you die, at least.

1- Citizen Kane directed by Orson Welles.
2- Dancer in the Dark directed by Lars Von Trier.
3- Jimmywork directed by Simon Sauvé.
4- Songs from the Second Floor directed by Roy Andersson.
5- Taxidermia directed by Gyorgi Palfi.
6- Keane directed by Lodge Kerrigan.
7- Continental: un film sans fusil directed by Stéphane Lafleur.
8- Memento directed by Christopher Nolan.
9- The Holy Mountain directed by Alejandro Jorodowsky.
10- L'Humanité directed by Bruno Dumont.

Honorable mention to: 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days by Cristian Mungiu.

I just tried to make a list of films that could be rare, something new. It's always interesting for me to just sit in my living room, press play and look at the emotions my "mainstream" friends can get by watching masterpieces like that. 50% of these friends are now GREAT cinema fans from everywhere in the world.

Upon landing in the desert kingdom, however, Fleury and his team discover Saudi authorities suspicious and unwelcoming of American interlopers into what they consider a local matter. Hamstrung by protocol-and with the clock ticking on their five days-the FBI agents find their expertise worthless without the trust of their Saudi counterparts, who want to locate the terrorist in their homeland on their own terms. Fleury's crew finds a like-minded partner in Saudi Colonel Al-Ghazi, who helps them navigate royal politics and unlock the secrets of the crime scene and the workings of an extremist cell bent on further destruction. Beowulf & Grendel

stars Stellan Skarsgård (pirates 2 & 3,plays bootstrap bill turner),Gerald Butler (300)

Plot: The blood-soaked tale of a Norse warrior's battle against the great and murderous troll, Grendel. Heads will roll. Out of allegiance to the King Hrothgar, the much respected Lord of the Danes, Beowulf leads a troop of warriors across the sea to rid a village of the marauding monster. The monster, Grendel, is not a creature of mythic powers, but one of flesh and blood - immense flesh and raging blood, driven by a vengeance from being wronged, while Beowulf, a victorious soldier in his own right, has become increasingly troubled by the hero-myth rising up around his exploits. Beowulf's willingness to kill on behalf of Hrothgar wavers when it becomes clear that the King is more responsible for the troll's rampages than was first apparent. As a soldier, Beowulf is unaccustomed to hesitating. His relationship with the mesmerizing witch, Selma, creates deeper confusion. Swinging his sword at a great, stinking beast is no longer such a simple act. The story is set in barbarous Northern Europe where the reign of the many-gods is giving way to one - the southern invader, Christ. Beowulf is a man caught between sides in this great shift, his simple code transforming and falling apart before his eyes. Vengeance, loyalty and mercy powerfully entwine. A story of blood and beer and sweat, which strips away the mask of the hero-myth, leaving a raw and tangled tale

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3:10 to Yuma

Shortly thereafter, Wade is captured by the law in Bisbee and Evans finds himself one of the escorts who will take Wade to the 3:10 to Yuma train in Contention for the reward of $200. Evans's effort to take Wade to the station is in part an effort to save his land but also part of an inner battle to determine whether he can be more than just a naive rancher in the eyes of his impetuous and gunslinging son William Evans. The transport to Contention is hazardous and filled with ambushes by Indians, pursuits by Wade's vengeful gang and Wade's own conniving and surreptitious demeanor that makes the ride all the more intense.

There Will Be Blood
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson
Starring Daniel Day Lewis
awards it has won: 2 out of 8 oscar nominations + another 43 wins + another 40 nominations for various awards.

Plot:
In the 1890s, Daniel Plainview, a struggling silver miner, finds his true wealth in petroleum extraction while taking the orphaned child, H.W., as his own for a valuable family man image. In 1911, Plainview gets a tip on a valuable supply on the struggling Sunday family ranch in the impoverished Little Boston, California. In his quest to acquire the property, Plainview meets the sanctimonious Eli Sunday, the young reverend of the local church with his own ambitions for his diocese and the profit from the oil. As the oil wells begin, an escalating conflict arises between exploiters of many kinds while Plainview's canny ruthlessness gradually sinks into a slowly mounting malevolent madness. In doing so, it begins to drive every emotional bond away that all the wealth he gains can never replace. Written by Kenneth Chisholm

Set in the early 20th century, the film follows the rise to power of Daniel Plainview -- a charismatic and ruthless oil prospector, driven to succeed by his intense hatred of others and psychological need to see any and all competitors fail. When he learns of oil-rich land in California that can be bought cheaply, he moves his operation there and begins manipulating and exploiting the local landowners into selling him their property. Using his young adopted son H.W. to project the image of a caring family man, Plainview gains the cooperation of almost all the locals with lofty promises to build schools and cultivate the land to make their community flourish. Over time, Plainview's gradual accumulation of wealth and power causes his true self to surface, and he begins to slowly alienate himself from everyone in his life. Written by Denny Gibbons

Trick or Treat with Ozzy Osborne and Gene Simmons.

A diehard fan of a rock idol decides to play his last demo by playing it backwards. This also makes the dead rock star come back to life and wreak havoc on the bullies messing with Eddie Weinbauer (Marc Price from Family Ties).

This movie was great at first it would be a stupid teenybopper slasher flick but it turned out to be more a film about the Supernatural and dark forces meeting
a world of wannabee badasses and politically correct media.

Gene Simmons and Ozzy were great especially Ozzy as the Rev. Aaron Gilstrom as the moral preacher who thinks Rock N' Roll is the root of evil of perversion (ironic and funny to the hilt).

This is literally one of those films I could watch over and over again regardless if it's Halloween or not. There's a lot of scares but it's not as graphic as I expected to be but definitely worth checking out.

Goodbye Charlie Bright is a 2001 film directed by Nick Love and starring Paul Nicholls, Roland Manookian and Danny Dyer. The film is also known by the U.S. title Strong Boys

Source : Wiki

The story follows the often turbulent friendship between Charlie (Nicholls), Justin (Manookian) and a group of other youths from their South London estate. Charlie's life ambles along as the group enjoy a lifestyle of house parties, casual sex and drugs. However, after breaking into a house, three of the friends (Charlie, Justin and Damien) accidentally awaken the owner who promptly chases them into the street with a golf club. The trio escape, much to the amusement of Justin and Damien. However, whilst in the house Charlie stole a handgun and despite promising to tell Justin everything, decides to keep the gun a secret.

Sometime later the story picks up Charlie and Justin as they walk through a derelict car park. After looking in the window of a BMW it becomes clear that Julie, the girlfriend Francis (Dyer), another member of 'The Firm' is having sex with 'The local nutter' Eddie (Phil Daniels). By this time in the story it has become clear that Charlie is discontented with his lifestyle and would prefer to try and make something of his life, unlike Justin, who would clearly prefer things to remain the same. This point is highlighted when the two attend a party being thrown by Hector Moriati (Cousin to Charlie), with Charlie being offered a job as an estate agent, much to the displeasure of Justin. Justin is eventually thrown out by Hector, who in turn asks Charlie to stay (which he does not). On the way back to the estate the pair begin to fight, Charlie clearly annoyed that Justin has ruined an opportunity for him to turn his life around. Charlie, as the narrator, informs the audience that from that point on 'Things could never be the same'.

The following day Francis approaches Charlie in the street and the pair head off to a boxing gym where Francis announces his intention to propose to Julie. Charlie tells Francis about Julie's affair with Eddie. Francis, in a tearfull rage walks out of the room and goes on the hunt for Eddie, baseball bat in hand. When Francis eventually finds Eddie he smashes the window of his BMW, causing Eddie to run him down. Charlie then arrives as Francis lies unconscious on the road. As Charlie waits in hospital he is visibly moved by an upset woman, presumably Francis' mother, and decides to take revenge on Eddie with the stolen pistol. After finding Eddie he looses his nerve prompting Eddie to tell him to 'Fuck of out my house before you and I fall out'. After leaving Charlie eventually shows the gun to Justin, who clearly becomes very attached to it and suggests killing Eddie.

Justin is later insulted by a child in the park and threatens him with the gun, going as far as pushing the barrel into the terrified boys mouth. Disgusted, Charlie snatches the gun from and tells him he no longer wishes to be associated with him, making it clear to Justin that when his back is turned people 'Take the p**s' out of him. A distraught Justin tries to make amends but Charlie refuses, instead giving him the gun as a farewell gift. Instantly Justin runs off, pursued by Charlie who has realised that Justin intends to shoot Eddie. Before Charlie is able to stop him Justin shoots Eddie in the leg and the pair make their way to the top of a high rise building, where Charlie seemingly forgives Justin and the two embrace.

Meanwhile the police arrive and Justin tells Charlie to leave or risk 'Getting nicked as well'. The final scene is set to the brilliant Oasis Hit 'Live Forever' and the camera follows the pair on their different routes - Justin as he is arrested, albeit with a smile on his face and with a crowd cheering for him and Charlie as he packs his bags and leaves, being asked where he is going by a child as he does so, he simply replies 'Somewhere'.

The Departed
A Martin Scosese Crime Drama

Source: Wikipedia

he film begins in South Boston and Charlestown, featuring a montage of riot footage with voice-over narration by Irish mob boss Francis "Frank" Costello (Nicholson), who expresses his belief that "a man makes his own way" in the world, and that "no one gives it to you... you have to take it." He is able to beguile a young neighborhood boy named Colin Sullivan (Conor Donovan), who enters into Costello's criminal underground at a young age.

Years later, Colin Sullivan (now played by Damon) is finishing his training for the Massachusetts State Police, as, in a separate class, is William "Billy" Costigan, Jr. (DiCaprio); both eventually graduate to become state troopers. Sullivan, who quickly distinguishes himself, is assigned to the Special Investigations Unit ("SIU") of the State Police by SIU's Captain Queenan (Sheen) and Staff Sergeant Dignam (Wahlberg). Queenan and Dignam also interview Costigan, but are convinced that Costigan's family ties with the Boston underworld make Costigan unsuitable for anything other than undercover work. Costigan agrees to work for Queenan and Dignam's undercover division of SIU and become a mole in Costello's crime family. To make his new identity believable, SIU creates a false assault conviction for Costigan, who serves a jail sentence to comply with the sham conviction. The "conviction" also requires Costigan to be placed on probation upon release, and to attend mandatory psychiatry sessions with staff psychiatrist Dr. Madolyn Madden (Farmiga), who will later become Costigan's love interest. Costigan's police academy record and file are concealed from the department, leaving only Queenan and Dignam with any knowledge of his true identity.

Sullivan is assigned to the organized-crime division of SIU, an "elite unit" headed by Captain Ellerby (Baldwin). The unit's only target is Costello, whom the unit attempts to apprehend in cooperation with the FBI. Although Dignam agrees to assist Ellerby's unit, he refuses to reveal any information about undercover informants to the organized-crime division of SIU. Costigan, in the meantime, infiltrates Costello's crew using his family connections and a "nothing to lose" character he fashions for himself while in Costello's presence (Costigan beats up two of Costello's rival Italian-American gang members, as well as one of Costello's own underlings). Although suspicious of Costigan's motives, Costello adopts Costigan into his crime family after Costigan withstands a physically torturous inquisition into his police background by Costello.

Sullivan, in the meantime, works to tip-off Costello to police activity while moving his way up the ranks in SIU. Sullivan also attempts to work his way up the social strata, by initiating a romantic relationship with Dr. Madden. Shortly afterward, Madden begins seeing Costigan under the terms of his probation, and begins a simultaneous romantic relationship with Costigan of which Sullivan is unaware. Until the end of the relationship, Madden remains unaware that Costigan is actually a State police officer, instead falling in love with Costigan's concocted criminal persona.

After one of Costello's illegal transactions is nearly thwarted by SIU, Costello becomes convinced that there is a rat in his crew. Likewise, Costello's elegant evasion of SIU's heavy surveillance during the transaction tips Queenan and Dignam to the presence of an informer in SIU.

To catch the "rat" in his gang, Costello agrees to obtain the biographical information of his enforcers and transmit it to Sullivan in SIU for a records check. The information, including social security numbers, is collected on paper and placed in a distinctive envelope to be transmitted to Sullivan. Costigan, predicting that the envelope will be transmitted to the mole in SIU, follows the envelope and Costello, where Costigan observes the inter-change between Costello and his mole in a porno house (the film being played is an actual scene from Debbie Does Dallas - The Revenge). Costigan, however, cannot directly identify Costello's mole because of his vantage point. Attempting to discover Sullivan's identity, Costigan follows him through the streets, where Sullivan becomes alerted to Costigan's presence. Costigan eventually loses track of Sullivan in Boston's Chinatown neighborhood; and neither party becomes able to positively identify the other.

Meanwhile, SIU initiates its own measures to capture the mole(s) in its division. Captain Ellerby, beguiled by Sullivan's "immaculate record", assigns him to investigate SIU officers and locate the mole(s). Sullivan uses his new authority to instead target the mole in Costello's crew. He orders SIU officers to follow Captain Queenan, which eventually leads them to a building where Costigan has scheduled a meeting with Queenan. Sullivan quickly realizes that Queenan is meeting the informant in Costello's crew, and calls Costello to alert him. Costello orders his crew to the scene; and they arrive before the two officers can make their escape. Queenan orders Costigan to flee, and stays behind to confront Costello's crew alone, resulting in him being thrown out of a window to his death. Costigan encounters the crew on their way out of the building, feigning his late arrival on the scene to help catch Costello's "rat."

The SIU, which is still present at the scene, opens fire on Costello's crew, wounding one of Costello's lieutenants, Timothy Delahunt (Mark Rolston). After a narrow escape, the crew gathers in one of Costello's hideouts where Delahunt lies dying. Delahunt, out of earshot of the others, reveals to Costigan his certainty that Costigan is the mole, but states he has not informed any of the others. Delahunt then expires, and a news report (watched by Costello and his men) states that he was a police informant, but Costello assures the others that "the cops are saying he's a cop so I won't look for the cop."

In the aftermath of Queenan's death, Sullivan orders Dignam to "unlock" the files on undercover officers for him; Dignam replies by punching Sullivan in the face and airing suspicions that Sullivan had a hidden motive for following Queenan. Ellerby steps in and places Dignam on a 2 week probation.

Sullivan then opens the box of evidence retrieved from Queenan's murder scene, and finds Queenan's cell phone with a stored number to his undercover in Costello's crew. Sullivan calls Costigan and attempts to lure him out of hiding by pretending to be Queenan's replacement. While rifling through the other recovered articles of evidence, Sullivan finds a notation in Queenan's personal notebook indicating that Costello might be an informant for the FBI.

Costello is later tailed by SIU to a warehouse where he is to acquire packages of cocaine for distribution. Sullivan, disturbed by the possibility of Costello's informant identity, stages a police ambush at the warehouse. Costigan, who has communicated with Sullivan to set up the ambush, slips away from the scene before the two sides engage in a shoot-out. Costello is badly wounded in the fray, but manages to slip away and contacts Sullivan for aid. Sullivan, however, confronts Costello about his status as an informant in the FBI, and demands to know whether Costello has alerted the FBI to Sullivan's criminal activities. Costello attempts to kill Sullivan with a concealed pistol, but Sullivan manages to kill Costello first.

At the station, Sullivan is showered with praise from his co-workers, who remain unaware of his identity and relationship with Costello. Costigan, who has come in after Costello's death to regain his identity, meets with Sullivan for the first time. While Sullivan leaves the room to retrieve Costigan's file, Costigan notices the distinctive envelope containing the crew's personal information sitting on Sullivan's desk and leaves the station. Sullivan erases Costigan's police record and file from the department database. Costigan locates Madden and gives her an envelope, without disclosing its contents, only telling her to open it if anything should happen to him in the next few weeks.

Madden, at the apartment she shares with Sullivan, is tipped to the true identity of each when a piece of mail arrives, addressed from "WM Costigan" to Sullivan. It contains sound recordings of Sullivan and Costello's private conversations, along with Costigan's phone number. Madden plays the recordings for Sullivan, who dismisses them, but who nervously calls Costigan for an explanation. Costigan explains that the tapes, which Costello kept for self-protection reasons, had all been released to him by Costello's lawyer upon Costello's death. Using the tapes as leverage, Costigan orders Sullivan to meet him later that day at the building where Queenan was killed.

On the building's rooftop, Costigan confronts and handcuffs Sullivan, intending to arrest him and reveal his part in Costello's organization. Sullivan's SIU colleague, Officer Brown, (Anthony Anderson) (who attended M.S.P. training with Costigan) arrives shortly afterward and orders Costigan to stand down. Costigan backs Sullivan into an elevator at gunpoint. When the elevator doors open on the ground floor, Costigan is shot through the head by Officer Barrigan, (who attended M.S.P. training with Sullivan) who then kills Brown when Brown reaches the ground floor. Barrigan explains that he too was in Costello's employ, and appeals to Sullivan with solidarity, stating that they "must stick together" to survive. Instead, Sullivan shoots Barrigan to keep his involvement with Costello a secret. In his official report, Sullivan tells investigators that Barrigan, as Costello's lone mole, entered the building and shot both Costigan and Brown, whom Sullivan was unable to save. Sullivan closes by recommending William Costigan, Jr. for the department's Medal of Merit.

At Costigan's funeral, the pregnant Madden angrily rebuffs Sullivan's attempts to reconcile their relationship, and it is unclear whether the child she is carrying is Sullivan's or Costigan's (it is implied in an earlier scene that Sullivan may be impotent). Following the funeral, Sullivan returns home with groceries to find Dignam (apparently tipped off by Madden) waiting in his apartment. Dignam shoots Sullivan through the head with a suppressed pistol, and then exits the apartment. The camera pans up from Sullivan's body to show a lone rat crawling on the apartment's balcony railing, which frames the gold dome of the Massachusetts State House in the background.

So absically my favoirte movies include:

1) Hard Candy
2) Requiem For A Dream
3) Mirror Mask
4) Amelie
5) Life is Beautiful.
6) The Pianist.

I haven't really watched many movies. Apart from these I've watched a couple more, but they didn't really catch my attention. These are in order, so Hard Candy is my favorite, followed by Requiem.

I want to watch movies like these, so I was wondering... what would you reccomend for me? I've gotten:

*Funny Games
* Pan's Laberynth

And I may watch those soon enough, but apart from that... any suggestions? Thanks.
