It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just wanna live while I'm alive
It's my life
We open with a glorious Sunday Morning in Miami, Florida, home to one of the FWAs best kept secrets, Joey Bones, as he rolls down the streets in an Metallic blue Mazda RX Convertible, the top down as the wind runs through his hair. Joey is on his way out to the Airport to catch the last available flight out to Denver, CO for this years Mile High, where Joey, like his boss the Astonishing Chris Kennedy, will have the biggest match of his career. Joey Bones will go toe to toe with a bunch of other losers that Joey would waste an drop of piss on if they were burning.
Joey drives past the McDonalds he used to work at as a teenager. He laughs for a bit as he thinks about how much he hated his job and how he would smoke pot in the meat freezer. He continues cruising down the street and sees the Hair salon his mother used to work at when she was struggling to raise 3 children all on her own. Her struggle is the exact reason Joey is under the employ of Mr. Kennedy, the need to survive amidst the struggle. He sees the old Baseball Card shop he used to buy comic books and nearby the street corner he used to buy his pot on.
While his boss Chris Kennedy may have a slew of houses and condos all around the country, Joey Bones still lives in the house he grew up in, still hangs out in the old neighborhood and still is struggling to "make it". Joey Bones gets paid pretty handsomely working for Chris Kennedy but no one has ever become rich being a bodyguard. Joey Bones has always secretly wanted more, and he knows that if he were win the Brawl For It All at Mile High, then he would have his choice of a North American title shot, a Young Lions title shot or even Tag Team title shot. Any of these would not only guarantee Joey with a serious paycheck, but it would also secure Joey's place in the FWA, making him a star.
As Joey stops at a red light, he briefly thinks about his brief stint in prison, when the inmates would gather around the rec room to watch Friday Night Fight Night, when Ryan Hall was the champion. He had been a fan of the FWA since the very first episode and working for Kennedy was merely his ticket into the door.
Joey Bones turns his head out the driver side window and looks at us knowingly, as if he is Ferris Bueller breaking the fourth wall.
Joey Bones: Tonights the night, Bro. Spent about an hour in the tanning bed, hit the gym pretty hard, and I got my lucky t-shirt on. Bro, no one can stop me tonight, I got the money match right here and I am going to run buck wild on all their asses. Mr. Kennedy has been really good to me and it's because of him that I even have a shot in this match. So I owe him a bit of thanks, but to any of you Cake eating Fester faced Jabberjaws who think I am nothing more than a "lackey" I am going to use this match to prove to all of you Chalk suckers what Joey Bones is all about. See I ain't had a match since Red, White and Bruised, where I beat the holy hell out of Gabrielle's boy toy Julian Night, and now my only match since is at Mile High. Way I see it, the FWA has me on a PPV only basis, which means I'm so good in the ring that you can only PAY to see me! Even Mr. Kennedy ain't got it like that, bro! I'm pound for pound the best up and comer in the FWA since I have never lost a match. Sure I have only been in two but I won both of 'em, bro. How you like them apples, boss? So many possibilities are laid out right in front of me here. I mean, first off I can win the brawl and go after the TV title. I think I'd make a damn good champion too, better than that pizano Anthony. But you know, there is always The North American champion. What better way to reinvent myself as a competitor by switching over to the Blue Brand, showing everyone on CrossFire how we do down here in the Bone Yard. Alexx, Cameron Cross, Carmine Reaper, whichever bag of dogsh**t that is North American champion by the time I cash in my title shot is going to get dealt with swiftly, because I am going to buy a name for myself and I am signing the check on their asses. But you know what bro, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of getting a Tag Team title shot. I could partner up with my boss, Kennedy, or I could even team up with my old buddy Juan Lopez, who I practically grew up with here and Miami. Either way, this might be the best option because it would pit me against Anthony and Duke Drazin and a win like that...a win like that can make you around here.
So many opponents I have to talk about here. First we'll start out with Cameron Cross, a halfway put together Chris Kennedy knock off from a s**thole I like to call Pittsburgh. He dresses like Kennedy, does his hair like Kennedy, he even takes Kennedy's sloppy seconds when he goes bobbin' for apples between Gabrielle's legs just to get a taste of Kennedy. Gross, Bro. If you wanna be so much like Chris Kennedy I suggest you drop the skank. He did and he is a lot happier.
Cameron Cross, you spent half his career fighting Alexx, hell you even even somehow managed to beat Alexx at Mile High last year for the X-Devision title. But what Cameron Cross don't get, is that tonight I am hungrier than either him or Alexx have ever been bro, And I am going Full Metal Alchemist on his ass Derk Dangerously style bro. I'm comin' with everything I got dude, So you can bank on that. Just to show you how stupid Cameron Cross is, instead of putting all of his energy into the North American title shot he already has, he is going to first go out there and compete for a NA title opportunity, which makes no sense because after I whip his candy ass into so badly he ain't making it to his ACTUAL title match, and then what was it for, Cameron? Bro, you just took a wrong turn on what was an already bumpy road to the North American title. Shame on you, kid. It's that shotty logic right there that is the reason you won't beat Alexx tonight and it's the same reason you will be one of several other Muckmouths who will be walking back up the ramp as the referee raises MY hand. Here's another fun fact, Cameron. You might, and I mean MIGHT have a shot against Alexx, but I promise you I am winning the Brawl For It All, and If you DO by some miraculous act of god win the North American title, I just may end up taking a trip to CrossFire to cash in my rightful title match.
Joey Bones takes his sunglasses off and checks himself in the mirror before making a right turn down 3rd Street.
Joey Bones: Then we got William Jayne, another joker who tried to cross the boss, coming out here talking smack to Mr. Kennedy, only for him to eat a Bittersweet Chin Symphony. Apparently William Jayne isn't very smart at all. William Jayne has a TV Title match tonight, but just like Cameron Cross, he is out here competing for a number one contender match to for a belt he already has a shot at. This is the definition of stupidity. So like Cameron Cross, I am going to wear his ass out so badly during the Brawl that he will throw away chance at actually having a shot in the TV title match with Anthony or whatever that guys name is. Jayne's gimmick is that of a pirate, which makes sense bro because he wrestles like he has a peg leg and one eye. Your profile on FWA.com says you dislike Chris Kennedy. Hell, Chris Kennedy doesn't even know your name and he has already kicked your skull in so badly that you are even ugier than you were before, if that's even possible. Like me, you are undefeated, so far, but unlike me you don't have the drive to make it in this business. You don't have the balls to make it any further than you already have and when it's all said and done, you will be another case of "what might have been". As far as I can tell, the only talent you have you have is the ability to run your mouth for hours on in, bro. Somebody needs to shut you up and it may as well be me. I will be doing that worthless hack Anthony a favor when I soften you up for him, when I beat you to a bloody pulp and shatter one of your legs so that you can actually live out you pirate gimmick to it's full potential. Art imitating life, bro.
And as if William Jayne weren't enough, there is another talentless dipsh*t in this match who likes to hear his own voice, and that's XXX. What a stupid name, I mean, didn't you see that movie with Vin Diesel? It sucked, bro. So cheesey. I'm sure that's not where the acronym originates from. Dudes name is Xavier Xin-Zang Xaxby or some utterly stupid combination of retarded names.XXX the wrestler, just like a XXX rated film, is cheap, dirty and forgetable. XXX could even beat a pee stain like Ryan Rondo and good god does Ryan Rondo suck ass. XXX, your attempt at portraying a larger than life superstar is a joke. Come on man, be true to yourself. Your a broke ass buster with an attitude problem. I'd keep that trap shut before Golden shuts it for you. Yeah, he is sick of your mouth, just like everyone else in the FWA. You are a flash in the pan, you had your 15 minutes and you blew it. I don't see you as the future of the FWA, I see you as a future gas station attendant or a future "sandwich artist" at your local Subway. I will say, XXX, you are good at one thing, and that's being a whipping boy to other superstars. So when I beat your bitch ass down to chinatown, XXX, just know it's just business, bro.
As the approaching light turns red, Joey Bones puts his foot on the gas and runs it quickly, laughing a bit as he does so.
Joey Bones: XXX is a big enough loser, but let's go back to Ryan Rondo for a bit. Rondo is a chump and a half, and was hyped up pretty well when they moved him to Fight Night from CrossFire, but has has done nothing, absolutely nothing, since coming to Fight Night. We gotta word fpr scabs like Rondo and that word is "Asshole". Kid sucked so bad that they took the X-Division title off of him and booted the little snot over to Fight Night because G-Rich was sick of looking at him. Ryan Rondo is a decent competitor, but he lacks the focus and the desire to ever really make it here. He is not dedicated to this at all bro, he just total garbage. And you would think that after all the FWA has done to hype the little Gummy Worm up that he would take his spot here seriousley, he doesn't though and is just going through the motions of of a failed FWA superstar on the downfall. Such a shame. Rondo, bro, I hope for your sake you actually show at least a little bit of interest in this match, because it may very well be your last when you are in the ring with Joey Bones!
JoJI is another one gunning for the glory here. Funny, y'know, that JoJI and I both came to the FWA around the same time, employed as bodyguards for Kennedy and Gabrielle. While Chris and Gabrielle were an item you and me may have even been friends at one point, but all that changed the night Mr. Kennedy gave me the order to clean your clock at Red, White and Bruised. Oh yeah bro, I took you OUT son!It wasn't anything personal, bro, just me doing what I get paid to do. You wouldn't know because you are not in it for the money, you are just in it to get a good whiff of Gabrielle's panties. Well check it, Elvis, You are not the only one of Gabrielle's boy-toys I have laid to rest. At Mr. Kennedy's command I fought Julian Night and completely obliterated him in a squash match. He hasn't shown his ugly mug in the FWA since. He was walking around here like a brand new monster had been released in the FWA, sending his little assistant around to survey superstars, claiming he was buying the FWA. All it took from me was a few well placed clotheslines and that Marmaduke crawled back to his hole in Cold Creek Colorado never to be seen again. Just imagine what I am going to do to you, JoJI Fruit, I am going to dismantle in ways you never even thought physically possible bro, not because I share any feelings of hatred towards Gabrielle with my boss, not because I am fighting Chris Kennedy's war with Gabrielle by taking my aggression out on you, no I am only doing this because that's what I am paid to do. Plain and simple. I want to be the greatest, and I want to be paid nicely. This match is my ticket. I am going to step on your giant sized head on my way to victory. And after it's all done, you can run back to your master, tell Gabrielle that I didn't break your nose and mutilate your face because of her, I did it because of the money. Big rugby player looking guy like you, you are my biggest physical match here but you are not my biggest threat. I know your weakness, JoJI, and it's Gabrielle. Everything you do is to please her. You are not in this match for the glory of a title shot, you in this to impress your master so she can pat you on the head and tell you "good boy". Well JJI-Fruit, that ain't happening tonight.
Joey Bones turns into the airport and rides up the ramp to the parking gaage.
Joey Bones: You know, I love my car. It gets me where I need to be and it does so in major style, bro. You know who ain't fit to even operate a car? That alcoholic twerp Ashley O'Ryan. He is a father now I hear, and he says he is done with the bottle. I say "Bullshit" to that. All alcoholics are conveniently "clean and sober" when you ask them. Most of them are lyers. Ashley O'Ryan you drunken twig, I got your Vodka and Venom right here, bro. *grabs a handful of his crotch and smirks*
I guess it's not your fault you're such a sloppy drunken mess, you are after all Irish and you people suck down alcohol like a newborn baby latched to a fat tittie. You have ahad a bit of tag team success thanks to guys like Stu and Golden carrying your scrawny ass, but what else have you really done all by yourself? You are barely even part of the FWA anymore and when you do, you usually lose, true story. You are not going to win this match Ashley because even if you did you would just lose your tag team title shot anyway, it's your fault, Ashley, that Devin Golden was forced into joining The Great Siege, all because you couldn't carry your own wieght at Back In Business. Goddamn bro, you are a walking humiliation. Why even bother lacing your boots? Just go home to Moira and the baby, look your wife in the eye and say "I'm sorry" and then go kiss your baby on the head, tell her "You deserver better" and then go take a long walk over the shortest pier you can find, because the world would be better with out a bum like you, drinking your life away until you piss your pants and fall asleep. Look into my eyes, Ashley, I am 100% clean and sober, aside from a little weed, I am clear headed right now and I am telling you that I am in it to win it and as long as I am standing, this match is MINE.
The metallic blue Mazda RX-8 finds a parking spot and Joey grabs his bags out of the drunk before heading inside. He walks through the sliding glass doors and watches all the people buzzing around, checking in for flights and departing for far off locations. Joey smiles a bit as he heads to the check out desk.
Joey Bones: So what do I do? Do I become the next TV champion, standing alongside the soon to be FWA Champion Chris Kennedy or do I cross the fence and become the North American Champion on CrossFire? Do I become one half of the tag-team champions and if so who will be my partner? The future holds many, many questions for me but I know only I can actually decide my future. The time for standing behind my boss and taking orders is coming to an end, as I am out to make my own name for myself. Everything I have ever wanted and everything that I am culminates in this match. I can see my future right now bro. I see flashing lights, championship belts, dollar signs and all the women I can shake a stick at. This is why my mother, a woman who had to raise an entire family with help from no one, struggled her whole life...so that I would succeed. This is just the first step for me. Maybe someday I will be the next FWA Champion. I am not entirely certain that this is something not in my immediate future, as we all know it's Kennedy's time now, but I wouldn't rule anything out. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, get a good look at me because the next time you see Joey Bones, he will be a contender. Just you wait and see.
BONES
-The Astonishing-
2010 FWA Rookie Of The Year
2011 Golden Opportunity Winner
FWA Champion
FWA World Heavyweight Champion FIRST EVER FWA UNDISPUTED CHAMPION
Camera opens to a press conference room as reports and photographers gather around a podium that is marked with huge XXX letters and a hanging portrait of XXX in the background. Soon a short, chubby man approaches the podium. He steps on a stool to get a little height and begins to speak.
Man: Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Butch Dickerson and I am the attorney for Xavier Xander Xerxes. The reason we called this press conference is simple, because XXX has been wronged and disrespected by FWA management due to what occurred at the Anniversary Show. Mr. Xerxes will be taking a few questions after his prepared statements. And now let me present to you, a man of dignity, a man of ethics, and a man of integrity, I present to you the former X-Division champion and proud member of the Great Siege, Xavier Xander Xerxes.
XXX enters the conference room with a cup of tea in his hand and a notebook in the other with his prepared statements. He is wearing his traditional all-white suit and approaches the microphone to begin.
XXX: Thank you everybody I appreciate it. And since I don't like to hear myself talk, I promise to keep this short. First there are a few people that I want to thank. I want to thank my attorney, Butch Dickerson who will be accompanying me to every single FWA event for the time being to ensure fairness and equity when I step into the ring. I would also like to thank my record fourteen million twitter followers for showering me with support and love in this trying time. And since I am not one to gloat or bask in this sort of admiration, I am humbled by this network of support that I have received in the wake of this injustice that was done to me.
He slyly smirks as he takes a sip of his tea.
XXX: As a wrestler, I pride myself on my craft and wrestling technique. I know that when I step through those ropes and hear the entire arena cheer for me and chant my name, that I was destined to do this my whole life. When I am booked in a match, I do what i do best both on the microphone and in the ring, and I have always been an honorable wrestler who never takes the easy way out in any match, nor do I come into conflict with other wrestlers. So at the anniversary show, a historic event in FWA, I was booked to face my mentor and fellow Great Siege member, Devin Golden, and I was ready. I was ready to deliver in the ring like I always do and face Golden, but instead, it turns out that FWA management the "powers that be" did not look at my match with much interest. Hell as a matter of fact, they didn't look at it all. Instead, they viewed it with a lens of apathy and lethargy.
Xavier coughs
XXX: Now being the modest and humble Superstar that I am, I find this sort of inaction disrespectful and disappointing. It is obvious that I am a ratings giant and that people spend their hard earned money to come see me perform in the ring, but instead that did not happen. Maybe they were afraid of what I might do to Golden, or maybe they just forgot, it honestly doesn't matter because I wasn't given the match that I deserved.
Dickerson claps his hands in agreement and smiles.
XXX: Turns out FWA management prides itself on mediocrity and that is exactly what they got; a mediocre event with mediocre talent. I have been battling these backstage politics ever since I came to FWA. I was tossed to the side when Rondo vacated the X-Division championship, I was assaulted by Rondo on his departure with no repercussions, and I'm the bad guy? I'm thankful to have such a strong code of ethics to abide by because without them, I would just be...mediocre. Mr. Dickerson and I are considering taking legal action for the wrongs that have been done to me, but first we ask for two things.
Xavier runs his fingers through his hair as he chuckles to himself
XXX: First, I demand an apology from every member of FWA management for this apathy and disrespect that has been shown to me. Second, I demand an title shot for any title of my choosing on Crossfire or Fight Night because I should be rightfully rewarded for my hard work and dedication to this company. Now you might think to yourself, "but you're in the Brawl for All and if you win you can get a shot at multiple championships of your choosing." This is correct however, I should not compete in this match for a number of reasons.
Dickerson nods his head in approval
XXX: I have not properly prepared myself for this bout because I have been seeking guidance and comfort both from my legal team with Butch, but also my family as well. How do I know that the next time I walk down that ramp that my match won't get abruptly canceled like the last one? I have been inflicted with psychological harm from this incident. Also, I am better than each of the other competitors in this bout hands down. Of course, I never like to gloat or brag about anything involving me, but my in-ring skills speak for themselves. Even on their best day and my worst, it still would not even be a question about who's better or about who's gonna win, because it's gonna be me. Finally, if I do decide to compete, I do not want to held responsible for what I will do to these men. I might bash one in the skull with a steel chair or break their jaw with my elbow, and I will not/should not be held responsible.
XXX: And let me go ahead and address the elephant in the room - Devin Golden. As far as I see it, Golden is still my brother in the Great Siege. I still respect him and admire him and am still appreciative of the opportunity that he gave me. If he wants to step in the ring with me, that's fine. I will do whatever it takes to see that the Siege stays intact.
Xavier flips to the final page of his statement
XXX: I deserve championship gold around my waist. I know it, my fans know it, FWA management knows it. My demands have been set, and my stance is firm and clear. Tonight, if I decide to compete, I will get into that ring and win the Brawl for All. To me, it's an opportunity for me to make another statement to the "powers that be" that I am the future of this company. With Butch by my side, I have assurance that this type of injustice will never occur again, because I do not deserve it in the least. Mile High is my night. Mile High is the night were Xavier Xander Xerxes makes history like he always does, and finally gets his rightful opportunity to become a champion once again. Believe that!!
XXX storms off and doesn't answer any questions at all thus abruptly ending the press conference.
As the fans begin to exit out of the arena “All Eyes on Me” blasts through the arena, Prime Time Darnell Porter makes his way out to the ring. He is still in his wrestling gear as the main event ended only fifteen minutes ago. The blood has been wiped out though the freshly put in stiches are visible, he is a bit woozy from being hit with the ring bell but him seems to be functioning well. He seemingly shakes the hand of every fan possible before grabbing a microphone, after throwing some of his gear out to the crowd he steps in the middle of the ring to address the audience.
Darnell: Y’all probably wondering why I’ am out here but there are some things I need to get off my chest and I didn’t want to waste any time in doing so. Granted I was part of the winning team but I do not feel like a winner . . . not because I took a heck of a beating but because I shortchanged y’all tonight. I knowingly came into this match with a game plan of holding back, I made a business decision not to go all out and for that I apologize. Mile High has been on my mind 24/7 since I found out I was going to be in the match, with my focus being that narrow I did not want to risk an injury so I held back in order to be at top shape for Mile High.
Darnell: Y’all paid good money in part to see me deliver a vintage Prime Time performance, for my own selfish reasons y’all did not get that performance. Winning the FWA World Heavyweight Title is my sole focus and with my opportunity being near I have ensured myself the best possible chance of winning as I can say I did not suffer any severe injuries tonight. With all of that said I want to reassure y’all of something’s, this is not like in the past in which I didn’t give maximum effort because I didn’t care, or I was lazy, or I felt a sense of entitlement. This decision was a one night thing and is not indicative of my commitment level as I’ am fully committed to living up to the name of Prime Time. Some may find it hard to believe my words but my actions will speak loud as I want all of y’all to see the sheer joy on my fast when I will the World Heavyweight Title for the second time. I can’t change what happened tonight, however I will attempt to make this up to y’all. For anyone wanting an autograph or picture I will be up through the night to accommodate as many fans as possible. Also if you guys go on my website I will have a contest in which I will fly the winners out for Mile High, and I promise upon winning the World Heavyweight Title the first thing I will do is fly back to Chicago and celebrate with all of y’all.
As he drops the microphone and has to the back a massive “Prime Time” chant breaks throughout the arena.
Chapter 2: Darnell Porter’s Addiction
As the director says cut Darnell makes his way off the set, he has just shot a clip for a movie in which he will appear in. The particular scene featured beautiful women, expensive liquor, wads of cash, fancy cars, drugs and any other swag which one could envision. The camera crew follows him into his trailer to get a few words with him about Mile High.
Darnell: Some men are addicted to women, they do everything in their power to impress them. Whether it is buying fleshy cars of clothes, or tricking out on these women these men do everything in their power to fulfill addition, they are not satisfied with just one woman. These individuals could have a stable of the finest women and still not be satisfied. Many people are addicted to alcohol, these individuals feel they cannot function without drinking. Their drinking becomes a need for them, it consumes them as they become addicted. Gambling, there are those people who are willing to risk all of their money in order to fulfill their gambling urges. These individuals scrounge for every cent hoping to find some money to gamble with, that is addiction. Personally I view drugs as the worst addiction of them all, they ruin more lives than any other addition. The sad thing is once a person gets deep into drug addiction they lose sight of how it affects them and others around them. I can go on and about the different kinds of addictions, the main point I would want someone to gain from this is how addiction consumes an individual.
Darnell: That prelude sets up the announcement of my personal addiction, people can speculate but my addiction is none of those things I mentioned earlier. My addiction is being a Champion that is the main thing that consumes me. I have had tastes of being a Champion and it is something I want to experience on an everyday basis. For me there was nothing better than waking up in the morning knowing I was a Champion, or walking to the ring with a Championship belt around my waist and the rush I got whenever my name was preceded with the word Champion is something I wish everyone could experience. The 6th Anniversary Show match was a major blow to my pride, not due to what happened in the ring but the fact I was involved in a 6 man match in which everyone around me had Championship gold except for me. I validate myself as a professional wrestler based off of having Championship gold around my waist, everyone in the Mile High match wants the gold around their waist, I need it and that is what separates me from the other competitors in the match. My name is Darnell Porter and I’ am addicted to being a Champion.
Chapter 3: Restoring the soul: Darnell takes back what others have taken
Denver, Colorado: Darnell Porter’s hotel room.
Sleep has not been in the vocabulary of Darnell Porter in the buildup to Mile High, as the event has got closer his amount of sleep has decreased. Days before Mile High Darnell is tossing in turning in his bed in his hotel room, realizing he isn’t going to get any sleep due to anxiety he throws an Arsenal warm-up suit on to go for a run. A short run turned into a ten mile one, after a shower he still can’t sleep so he pulls out a notebook to write down his thoughts.
“I cannot deal with the present until I have resolved my past.”
Back in Business IV: Snake Bitten
::Stu goes for the DDT but Darnell blocks it and counters for a northern light suplex but Stu blocks it. Stu knees Darnell in the ribs. Darnell moans in pain as Stu grabs Darnell and hits the DDT on Darnell. Stu huffing and puffing with blood pouring down his head covers Darnell. The referee begins the count. The Crowd is chanting Porter, Porter, Porter and Kick Out! One, two, three. The referee tell the time keeper to ring the bell. Stu slowly gets to his face with a sadistic look on his face. The referee hands Stu The World Heavyweight Title and raises his hand. The match lasted 34.57
Bryan Jacobs: Here Is Your Winner and NEW FWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION STU ’THE SNAKE’ ST.CLAIR!::
“When Stu St. Clair defeated me that night he not only took the FWA World Heavyweight Championship from me but he took a portion of my soul. That loss seemed to give people credence when they said my title reign was a joke, I never had the chance to redeem myself against Stu so that missing part of my soul has lingered for two years. Mile High gives me my chance to fill that missing void, so to Stu I intend to take back that portion of my soul you took from me two years ago.”
Trial by Fire 2008: The Beast Strikes
“I was happy as could be, I just had become the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Title in Madison Square Garden, and then all of that went down the drain. Adrian Wolf viciously attacked me after the match, the attack was so vicious that it put me on the shelf for a number of months. I can remember being carried out of the arena on a stretcher, I looked up to the FWA Tron and saw the look of satisfaction Adrian had on his face as a result of injuring me. That look has stuck with me to this day, not only did Adrian put me on the shelf but he took some of my belief away. A lot of people have said I’ve lost a bit of explosion due to injuries I suffered that night, I’ve never told anyone this but though my ankle is physically one hundred percent but I still have mental blocks about it which hinders my high flying ability. I won’t be able to able to fully trust my ankle until I step into Mile High, look Wolf in the eye and fight with the same reckless abandon I had at Trial by Fire in 2008. Adrian at Mile High I get my belief back.”
The Mile High Curse: Overcoming the past
“In 2008 I watched Matt Boudreau win in the Mile High at my expense, in 2009 I won but it was a match that no one cared about, I was off the radar and that match was indicative of where my career was at during that time period. Even when I win I actually look at it as a loss. 2010 was the worst Mile High of the all for me.”
:arnell grabs Gabrielle by the wrist, Gabrielle though takes her long nails and claws Darnell on his own wrist! Darnell's wrist is busted open and he screams already having been busted open previously in the night, blood sprays from a vein being struck. Darnell can't help but let go as he falls to the ground with Gabrielle.
The two hit the ground hard. Darnell rolls around cupping his wrist which is bleeding. Gabrielle has the FWA World Championship in her hands.::
“So close but at the end of the day so far, I have done everything possible in and out of the ring to win at Mile High. At the end of Mile High 2010 all I left with was the physical scar of Gabrielle’s nails on my wrist and the mental scars of another failure. In the past I’ve have done special training regiments to prepare for the altitude, I’ve talked to shrinks to mentally prepare me, in a nutshell I’ve done everything for Mile High except win Mile High. Mile High 2011, no special plans just plan to go out there and lay it all on the line, if it is good enough great if not than it is what it is.”
Darnell closes his notebook, he lays back into his bed staring at the ceiling with the hopes of sleeping and exercising his Mile High past.
Chapter 4: The Contenders
In his locker room before his match
Darnell: Thomas Princeton, you are a man who can buy just about anything you want, but I will give you credit in this regard . . . you can hold your own one you get into the ring. Being a former Tag Champion and North American Champion validates your wrestling ability and winning the Mile High match will give you’re the one thing that even your money can’t buy . . . The World Heavyweight Title. Despite all of your wealth you have seemingly come up short when the stakes are at their highest, thought y’all rich guys liked high stakes.
A slight chuckle comes from Darnell.
Darnell: I have been in the FWA for a while and you’ve been here longer than me so I find it odd that we have never crossed paths. You have seen me from a far but I feel we’ve never been properly introduced. I’ am Prime Time Darnell Porter, aka the highlight of the night, aka the most exciting wrestler in the world, aka the man who puts fans in the seats, and aka most importantly the main reason you will come up short once again. Thomas meet Darnell Porter, the next FWA World Heavyweight Champion.
Darnell: Carmine Reaper is a wrestler I have a lot of respect for, he has heard the critics talk about him not being “strong” enough to succeed and been able to prove them all wrong as he has established himself as one of the top guys on Cross Fire. The ability to overcome obstacles is something we both share, people have buried me so many times I lost count but somehow I continue to overcome and see myself back with a chance to become World Heavyweight Champions for the second time. Carmine while I respect your resolve, it is something I want to test, and plan to exploit. You don’t need me to tell you that magnitude of this match, I’m sure you’re aware it is the biggest of your career. I have an advantage over you in these high profile matches, the world will be watching so I know what I gotta do but what about you? Add on to your pressure you represent The Great Siege, recently things ain’t be going y’all way so you are not only fighting for yourself but you are fighting to save face for your group. Carmine how will you react when the pressure intensifies, one mistake could cost you but being too tentative could also cost you so how will you cope? Katie won’t be able to help you.
A bit of a low blow by Darnell, mind games are what he is trying to play.
Darnell: Those talks y’all can only can do so much. Let me answer that, you will fold and once I really put the pressure on you than the old Carmine will come out leaving you ripe for the picking.
For the next opponent Darnell mockingly claps his hands.
Darnell: Congratulations Devin Golden, after I talked the talk you walked the walk and defeated me in our last match. I was a bit critical of your attitude heading into the match and I challenged you to bring out the old Devin for the match, which you did. I will make no excuses, on that night you were the better wrestler than I was. Now in saying that, I’ am not the same wrestler I was during that match, I’ am a better wrestler as after watching the tape I have gone back to correct my mistakes. I’ am not bragging when I say this, when it comes to making adjustments no wrestler is better than I’ am . . . that is a fact.
Darnell: Unlike me you have some good history at Mile High, last year you defeated Stu St. Clair to become the World Heavyweight Champion. In your mind that victory last year gives you momentum heading into the match, nothing lasts forever and I intend to snap my Mile High jinx. Devin Mile High 2011 will be a role reversal, you will not leave as World Heavyweight Champion as that honor will go to me. When this match is over the only kind of gold involved with you will be in your name.
Going into his duffel bag Darnell pulls out his wrestling gear for Mile High, in revealing the gear it is quite familiar as it is the same gear he wore the night he won the World Heavyweight Title against Stu St. Clair.
Darnell: Stu does this look familiar, of course it does just a slight reminder about our past. Seeing how you are the master of playing mind games I decided to play a small one of my own. But let’s be real, this nor nothing else will get in your head. Stu is the definition of a pros-pro, he is solely focused on the task at hand and that is what I admire the most about Stu. You have been constantly at the top of the wrestling world for a number of years. Me on the other hand has ran hot and cold in recent years, no one including myself knew what to except from me. Stu is the most reliable wrestler in the FWA, if the FWA needs something to get done Stu is the money man. People in the FWA have used many words to describe me but reliable probably ain’t one of them. Stu we are opposite as can be except for one major thing, the factor that is driving to become World Heavyweight Champion again is the same factor that is guiding me. We both want to be the best wrestler in the world, being the World Heavyweight Champion goes some way in deciding who the best is.
Darnell: Even though your brother is the Champion I will say you are the favorite to win this match. You have the skill, the knowledge, the guile, and you will do whatever it takes to win this match. Saying all of that reinforces the belief I have in winning, when I beat you I was at my best and I know it will take my best to win this match. The irony is I finally get a shot and one of the men in the match is a man I had my greatest victory against.
Darnell: Speaking of irony the last person in my way is the man I have the most history with. Adrian Wolf, you and I have done it all in the wrestling ring. Blood, broken bones, injuries, innovation, violence, and classic matches are adjectives to describe our history. Winning the World Heavyweight Title is a great thrill, an even greater thrill will be to win the World Heavyweight Title at your expense. We’ve been in some high profile matches but this one tops them all, Mile High will be the biggest chapter in the history of our rivalry. You have always be accustomed to being the hunter, now you are the prey as myself and four others are gunning for your title. You are at quite the disadvantage as you don’t even have to be involved in the final decision to lose your title.
Darnell mockingly sheds some tears for Wolf’s situation.
Darnell: You gotta be mindful of the other guys but if you take your focus off me for even a second I will turn the lights out. I took you to the limit on my return to Cross Fire, at Mile High I will take your title.
Chapter 5: The Happy Ending
Minutes before the Mile High 2011 match
Darnell: Five of the best wrestlers in the FWA stand in my way of me completing my journey, I’ve scaled the highest of highs and I’ve hit rock bottom for my lows. I have been touted as the best in the world and a waste of talent over the years. It’s safe to say no one has had the roller-coaster career that I have had. The good, bad, and ugly I would change none of it as it has made me stronger than I have even been. There may be wrestlers in this match with more strength, experience, size, than me but none of them are more resilient than me. I have overcome every obstacle in my career and come Mile High nothing will stop me from overcoming another obstacle. Winning the World Heavyweight Title will be only the start of the latest chapter in my career
Thomas Princeton stands in his usual business attire outside of the Denver International Airport. The Yes Men flank him as he stares at the statue of a Bronco.
Dimitri: Not to be rude Mr. Princeton but what the hell are we doing here? Shouldn't we be headed to the Sports Authority field right now?
Tom: Dimitri, what do you see?
Dimitri: It's a statue.
Tom: It probably looks like just another statue to all of you doesn't it?
Tabby: I'm going to be honest, it does.
Bryce: Are we missing something here?
Tom walks up closer to the statue.
Tom: So you all just see a statue of a bronco. Do you know what this bronco is?
Tabby: It's the symbol of the city.
Tom: That's correct, but it's so much more than that. So much more, at least this particular statue.
Dimitri: Mr. Princeton the sun will be setting soon, we need to get to the arena. We don't want to keep the people waiting.
Tom: Do you think I honestly give a crap?
A brief pause.
Dimitri: No sir.
Tom: Those people you care so much about are just like all three of you. Only looking at the surface, not looking deeper. Looking fast the obvious and knowing what truly lies beneath something.
Bryce: Ugh! Enough with the riddles, tell us what we're looking at!
Tom: This bronco was originally made to be inside of the Denver airport, it's a bronze statue that was created to show the city's pride but this statue has a dark past.
Tabby: Dark? How so?
Tom: The people think it's cursed. A local legend, apparently the man who made the statue died shortly after completing this statue of mysterious causes. Rumors of a curse quickly spread like wildfire and the people refused to have the bronco inside the airport. But they were also so superstitious not to destroy it, for fear of evoking a wrathful spirit. So they placed it out in front of the airport for all to see.
Dimitri: What does this have to do with us?
Tom: It has nothing to do with US and rather ME. You see to the average uneducated person this is just another statue another work of art in the city of Denver. Some might even find it somewhat majestic in it's simplicity. I am not normal nor simple as this bronco would appear, but people have begun to brush me aside. Forget about me. They do not see me as a threat, they do not know all the destruction I could bring. But just as I educated you all right here I will teach the same lesson to my opponents in the Mile High Massacre match.
This is where the bronco and I share similarities. To some I am just a statue, a place holder in this match. Some because of their stupidity and denial of basic facts do not feel I can win this match. They have forgotten or perhaps are ignorant of the fact that I have destroyed before and I will destroy again. People should fear me, even the prospect of trying to defeat me should frighten them. For to destroy me puts them at risk of being destroyed. This Mile High Massacre match is more than just about a title, it's about showing the entire world that I am the most dangerous man in wrestling today. That I, and I alone can topple armies of wrestlers. This match is where I let loose on anybody and anything that will try and stand in my way. Anybody.
Tabby gasps as suddenly the eyes of the bronco begin to glow red as the sun is setting.
Tom: Oh and did I mention that at night the bronco's eyes glow red? Yeah, just another reason people think it's cursed. Alright then, let's get a move on. I've got a speech to make.
Tom and the Yes Men walk off.
*************************
Inside Sports Authority Field....
"The Orange Man" plays over the speakers and the crowd begins to jeer furiously as Thomas Princeton enters with his Yes Men. He steps into the ring and is handed a mic. The crowd is still booing him as he begins to talk but they eventually settle down.
Tom: Good evening my subordinates!
The crowd as expected, boos him.
Tom: That is no way to greet your next World Heavyweight Champion now is it?
More jeers from the crowd.
Tom: You all know it's true. Last time I competed in the Mile High Massacre match I came only a mere inches from becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion but bad luck hit me at the worst possible moment and then it was the traitorous Jack Severino who became champion. That's not going to happen this time, I will climb those cage walls unlatch the title belt and become your new world heavyweight champion and there isn't a damn thing anybody in this arena can do about it!
"You suck" chants begin. Tom takes it for a moment then begins to speak over the chants until they quiet down.
Tom: I have 5 other opponents in the Mile High Massacre match each more pathetic than the next! Let's start with the most improbable former world heavyweight champion ever... Devin Golden! The rotten gold as he likes to call himself, yeah he's rotten and he reeks of it! I'm not sure which smells worse this man's jock strap or his career the past few months! Devin Golden is just another lying, cheating, stealing good boy turned bad who thinks he can repeat victory at the highest level in this business. He thinks he is Ryan Hall but he's actually Faheem Fate! Just another loser who got lucky, got the big one but won't go anywhere after it. He's peaked and now it's just the sad, sad spiral into obscurity. Tell me, how many people even remember you actually were a world champion? Who actually remembered you beat Nemesis until I just reminded them all right now? That's your claim to fame? Nemesis isn't even with the company anymore, I outlasted him and I'll outlast you inside of that structure as I take the title you want so badly but unlike you when I win the belt I'm not going to squander my time in the spotlight. No, I'm going to walk out and be the dominant champion you wanted to be but didn't have the talent necessary to be.
To me Devin you are just a very weak extension of The Great Siege, a stable that itself is holding on by faint breaths. I'm pretty sure the leader of your legion was defeated by the man who learned his entire playbook from me? Drew Jolson was my lackey and he just kicked your leader's ass! What makes you think you will be able to defeat the man who trained him in a match of this caliber? Let that simmer in your head for a bit.
Now I move to the other person people often forget is a former world champion: Darnell "Prime Time" Porter? Prime Time? On Fight Night you were a glorified curtain jerker, nobody had the slightest bit of faith even though you claimed you were working so hard to repair your image. Well you've done a good job, and by good job I of course mean terrible. Terrible job. You want the whole world to throw down a red carpet because you had a close match against Wolf and you won some matches? I'm sorry I just don't care. You were possibly the most embarrassing world heavyweight champion and once again I'll compare you to Faheem Fate. At least his victory was impressive yours was just downright bewildering and your reign was laughable, and that's putting it lightly because children are in the audience and I'm an American hero so I try to protect their young ears when it pertains to hearing about weaklings who have the prestige of the dirt on my soles.
Darnell you are the definition of washed up, and that's a hard thing to definitively say in a company like the FWA where Ashley O' Ryan keeps managing to have comebacks. You are the bottom of the barrel in this match, the one nobody is willing to put money on because quite frankly if there is one thing you are consistent at it's disappointing. You and Mark Reynolds much exchange notes because besides you dominating in a few extremely weak divisions and periods of time I see little difference and Reynolds was my bitch, and I think I'll make you mine inside the Mile High Massacre match. When I'm done with you the only Prime Time you will be a part of is on some cable access station wrestling for a nickel admission wrestling promotion, and you'll hate every second of it. Just like you are going to hate every second I spend kicking the tar out of you!
Boos from the crowd. Tom smirks and continues talking.
Tom: Now I move onto Stu St. Clair "The Snake" the multiple champion, he's won so many title belts even I will admit I've lost track, and yet here he is in this match without the strap. That doesn't scare him though, well it wouldn't if the title holder wasn't Wolf. See Stu you are a sick bastard, you fear almost nothing but I know that you fear Wolf. You don't fear Ashley O' Ryan, you don't fear Carmine even though he beat you, you don't fear Darnell even though he once took the title off you, probably when you had the flu and possibly hepatitis, and maybe a bum knee. Who knows how you lost that match, I hate your guts and I still find it hard to believe. But regardless here you are in a match and there is one thing I've noticed, everyone in this match has beaten you before in a high profile match. And yes that includes me. Funny isn't it Stu, now you may not fear that but I'm sure that makes you nervous. After all if we've beaten you once, twice, multiple times who is to say it won't happen again. Actually I guarantee it will happen again, when I beat you at Mile High.
Stu we have clashed many a times, and what makes this so much different is that anything goes inside this match. I can do to you whatever I want, and yes you can to me. But everyone in this match hates you. Despises you, and fears you. Perhaps it is a good thing that I am like the famous Denver bronco, I should be feared the most but not everyone knows to do so. See they want you gone, they want to take you out first! Rocky Creed spent 70% of the Mile High match last year knocked out cold, he was so ashamed he basically ran away never to be relevant again. And do you know what's going to happen this year? They're all gonna team up on you, pick you apart. Tear you limb from limb, because you are the biggest threat to them. The multiple champion. Nobody in this match, not even me the great prince of darkness is a multiple world champion. Nobody. See when you don't have something, when you want something, when you've never felt it, or even just had a small taste. You want it all so badly! And we all want it all, your brother is going to try and kill you Stu. Be afraid, you have every right to be.
And now I'm brought to the sand paper against my hide, Carmine "Grim" Reaper. Recently reunited with his girlfriend, how delightful. I'd say I was happy for him but I used up my one lie tonight when I said I couldn't believe Stu got beat by Darnell.
Boos from the crowd, there are a few "Carmine" chants.
Tom: Carmine, what can be said about you that already hasn't been said? I'm sure you want me to acknowledge that you showed guts and talent by beating Stu and beating Alexx to get your girlfriend, but I'll be honest with you and say that winning back Katie was a minor victory, if you can even call it a victory. I mean you really wanted to impress me you should have beaten Alexx when the title was on the line, Alexx probably went easy on you because he wanted Katie off his hands. I've been with her alone for hours at a time and let me tell you that girl can yap, she's so annoying, if you ask me her mouth is good only one thing and one thing only. But again children are present so I'll restrain myself.
Did that make you mad Carmine? Did talking about Katie get you steamed? Oh well too bad, if you ever decide to challenge me for her honor I already know how it will go down, I'll beat you, you might defeat me, then I'll crush you, then after taking a pounding for a few weeks you'll finally muster up enough divine intervention to beat me when I don't even care anymore and win back her "honor". Give it a rest already kid it didn't turn heads when you did it to Jayson Shepherd it won't do it now. Your chances of winning this match are about as good as Katie winning a bikini contest. Cutting boards are generally not eligible for competition. But seriously Carmine get out of here we all know you aren't winning this match. I'd put money on Max Mejia before I put money on you, that's right I went there. I went all the way back to Max Mejia, the creep who had a breakdown after watching "Cloverfield" true story. After this match is over I can't wait to see you cry in Katie's arms as she tells you that you are "special to her".
Jeers from the arena. Tom chuckles a bit and then continues to talk.
Tom: Last but not least is Wolf. Oh Wolf, the battles we've had, the competition, the rivalry, and now look at you! You are on top of the brand, the world heavyweight champion. And I...don't...give a crap! As far as I'm concerned at Mile high you join the club of Golden and Porter with one of the shortest world heavyweight title reigns on record. People will sit around and joke "Yeah if you blinked you missed it!" That title is coming home with me Wolf, and all you'll be able to do is watch and sulk around as you wonder what went wrong. The problem is like Stu you are a target. If someone takes you out early on its guaranteed to be a new world champion. So why wouldn't they? You don't think Stu is going to go after you? Especially after what I just talked about? He'd be a fool not too, plus you took the title from him. There is a revenge angle on all of that.
Wolf you have always been a guy whose gotten close, but now that you have the title people will see why you always got close but never one, you aren't world championship material. I on the other hand will be an impeccable champion one that they will talk about for ages, the only thing you'll miss when you blink watching me is my BTY Clothesline as it knocks your head clean off! This is your match to lose and you will lose it. People who enter Mile High as champion do not leave champion, and that's a fact. You don't have the stuff to break the trend, not when I'm the one driving it forward. So enjoy your last few moments as champion Wolf, you don't have many more. Me and my clothesline are coming for you, and you should fear me! Fear me like they do the bronco because Mile High is cursed in a sense all world champions who lose the match tend to end up taking breaks or retiring all together. You feeling tired Wolf? Something tells me you won't be sticking around much longer...
Tom sneers and then looks into the crowd.
Tom: My eyes may not glow red, but I am evil, the paragon of pestilence! And I will do whatever it takes to become the new world heavyweight champion. Whatever it takes. Mile High Massacre will be a massacre but it will all be worth it when I hold that title belt above my head and finally hear the ring announce say "and the new world heavyweight champion....Thomas Princeton!" And then I will take the microphone in my hand and whisper..."And I'm better than you!"
The crowd boos as Tom tosses the mic and exits the ring with a smirk on his face and a confident swagger. His Yes Men flank him as he exits via the ramp.
