Rod Sterling was a former FWA referee before becoming a road agent and talent scout. Rod Sterling took a less demanding position back in 2009 when he became the head writer of FWA magazine, putting his Associates degree in Journalism to good use.
Sterling can now be read on FWA.Com with his weekly blog, "The Sterling Report"
Hello all,
Rod Sterling here. As Chris Kennedy said on Fight Night a few months ago, "The winds of change are in motion in the FWA". He was dead on, as FWA.com is reporting the end of the brand split. I, like many people, think this is the best possible step for The FWA in returning to it's glory. So many possibilities open up for potential feuds, potential matches and so forth. I can see the Tag Team division returning to greatness once more and I see less repetitive matches in the main event scene. This is an old concept, but it ironically feels very fresh. Will the titles be unified? One would think that eventually they would, though it seems the Young Lions title is faltering out, which would denote that perhaps the belt will be retired and that would leave us with The X-Division title in it's place. The X-Division title is very prestigious here in the FWA, while the Young Lions title has lost nearly all of it's luster ever since Mountain Rush foolishly vacated the stripped James Eyensane Hughes of the title.
Speaking of Hughes, he has not been seen much on tv lately and that's a shame. He is one of the brightest shining stars in the FWA and he isn't being used much. I see the next TV Champion in Hughes. Hughes rival Juan Lopez is the newest X-Division champ and I am sure him and Hughes will cross paths again since the brands are merging.
Saw Nolee LaCroix at Club FWA recently, and man is she tiny in person. She needs to spend less time focusing on her music and more time in the gym if she ever wants to be Womens Champ. This young generation of talent is spending too much time focusing on their endeavors outside of the ring. I see alot in young Nolee but she has yet to apply herself truly to her in-ring craft. She has one big win to her credit against Sara Wolf but she needs to step it up.
Mark Reynolds came back to the FWA not too long ago promising big things, was given a big opportunity quickly after returning and then vanished, thus insuring his release. I like Reynolds, but he is unreliable and has done no favors for The Young Lions title. Time will tell if we ever see Reynolds in the FWA again, but after two or three strikes, you fall into the James Sync school of flaking. Another one who was brought back for the 3rd (or 4th? I can't remember) time is Jermain Johnson.
He isn't being used, but rumor has it that the current incarnation of Doink The Clown in the FWA is actually Jermain Johnson, now this is just speculation, but upon Jermain Johnson's return, Jermain expressed interest in working a gimmick of a clown character but Matthew Robinson rejected the idea due to it's bizarre sexual concept connotation. The idea was that he would portray a clown who was accompanied to the ring by children and would "molest" his opponents. Robinson was quick to reject the idea and rightfully so. Is it so crazy to believe that Robinson let Jermain Johnson portray a more PG version of the character, minus the pedophile aspect? That's just an Internet rumor for now as the identity of the current Doink The Clown is unknown.
Guess what? FWA.com is running a new promotion where if you purchase the new Chris Kennedy shirt via pre-order, you recieve the new Juan Lopez shirt for free! Both shirts are hot, and your getting one of them free only f you preorder through FWA.com. This offer is VERY limited.
Last week was eating a steak dinner at The Elite Knights restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised to see Julian Night there enjoying a meal with a beautiful young woman. I stopped by to say hello and ask about how he's been and he insisted I joined him for drinks him. Helluva guy. He has excellent taste in cigars as he gave me an quite exquisite stogie from Ecuador. I also saw Duke Drazin come in, use the bathroom and leave. Don't know what that's all about. Funny thing about public restrooms, is that the cleanest ones always smell like piss. Maybe Duke Drazin is attracted by that, since he is always talking about it. Speaking of Drazin, word is FWA is considering releasing a DVD chronicling his career in the FWA. Rumor has it the DVD will be called "The many victories of Gabrielle" as practically in all of his matches, he loses to Gabrielle. Oh come on, it's only a joke.
Speaking of Gabrielle, we were all looking forward to a Gabrielle/Chris kennedy feud, but now that she is pregnant and Kennedy seems apparently guilty over his actions, it looks as if that feud may never happen. Then of course, there is a large audience that hopes that Gabrielle nd Kennedy reunite, but that seems rather unlikely. But hey, I've seen stranger things happen in the FWA.
Is Chris Kennedy really leaving when his contract expires in January? Only time can tell. I sure as hell hope not.
Stu ‘The Snake’ St.Clair will become FWA World Heavyweight champion again by 2012, mark my words. Thomas Princeton is a proud new champ and I like him as champ, but Stu St. Claire is gunning for his 5th World title. I also see big things out of Devin Golden and Darnell Porter. I am very pleased with how this is all going and as a fan I am excited again. Will Golden and XXX pick up? We are all eager to find out.
And now for this weeks "The Big Ten", where I will count down my 10 favorite FWA Wrestlers of The Week
10. Darnell Porter
9 Eyensane
8. Juan Lopez
7 Devin Golden
6. Thomas Princeton
5. Gabrielle
4. Stu ‘The Snake’ St.Clair
3 Chris Kennedy
2. Duke Drazin
1. Wolf
