Is Bobby Roode TNA's version of Shane Douglas in ECW?
Ever since Bobby Roode used the beer bottle to get the world title, I can't stop thinking about how much he reminds me of a young Shane Douglas in ECW. The cocky new heel champion who knows he is great, but is also more than willing to cheat to win.
Does anyone else see it?

Yeah I guess you can say he does remind me of Shane Douglas in a way

Isn't EVERY new heel champion a "cocky new heel champion who knows he is great, but is also more than willing to cheat to win"?

No! Shane Douglas had a rage inside of him which, developed because the big 2 companies never used him properly etc.
Bobby Roode is a guy who tried to achieve his goal the 'right way' and in a spur of the moment decision cheated and got the Championship so is now continuing down that path.

That's about it right there, Roode had done everything the right way, but never paid off until now.

I only wish the waited a bit longer to come to that moment in the storyline to develop a stronger hatred for James Storm based off of being jealous of his success.

For some reason, TNA is infringing on past workers gimmicks. Bobby Roode needs to be Bobby Roode. Just like Ken Anderson blatantly ripping off Steve Austin.

BOW DOWN TO THE KING

******GAME OVER!******
"I think you're a smug, over-rated, attention seeking guy that puts a little too much stock in his own hype." - Triple H to CM Punk (RAW 8/1/11)

Douglas and Roode are both willing to do disturbing things and laugh about it. They also can cut a promo with force. I would say Shane is much stronger at promos, while Roode is better in the ring.

Agreed. The personality change is sudden and dramatic. Sometimes, you might see someone show remorse but continue being a heel just from being stubborn. Roode became a complete heel instantly. He's good at it though and has potential.

DAMN! And this thread was actually a decent conversation, then you had to ruin it.
EVERY GIMMICK IS A RIPOFF OF ANOTHER! lol

I didn't watch a lot of ECW, but I have some promos that Shane did and some videos of his matches Roode really doesn't remind me much of him. I will agree that their tactics are kinda the same but I will say I don't want people to say Roode reminds them of someone else I want Bobby Roode to be Bobby Roode and to be remembered for him self and have his own act and gimmick. I think Bobby Roode needs to go back to like the Robert Roode gimmick all about the money and throw in his selfish gimmick with it and it would work very well imo side note from other topics with people saying he needs someone like Ric Flair managing him but I think he did get manager I think it should be Scott D'Amore.

I think that Roode and Douglas are being booked very similarly and I think that it is a very good thing. Shane Douglas was always at the top of the ECW and ushered in a new era and popularity. Here are the similarities that I see...
They are both good in-ring wrestlers who don't have overwhelming strength or speed.
They have an inner anger against authority that comes across in their promos. Roode is not at Douglas' level yet, but he is developing nicely.
They both have the skills to beat anyone straight up, but don't hesitate to cheat if needed.
They both treat the belt like it is the most important thing in the world to them.
Both men took the heavyweight championships away from the older, big name wrestlers and are trying to lead a new generation of wrestlers and their companies in a new direction.
That's just one man's opinion

You know that sounds a lot like Ric Flair.
Great in ring wrestler with not overwhelming speed or power.
Thought the title was the most prestigious thing in his life, and took it from Harley Race, a older and bigger name.

I find his new character similar to Triple H back in 2000.

Maybe they should go this way with Roode, instead of claiming to be the game. Bobby can claim to be 'The Business'.
In ring Bobby quote. 'This is not a GAME anymore, it business, And I...am...THE BUSINESS'
And I personally feel he needs a new entrance, or even and old one. 'Off the chain' is not big enough for him. Not the Money gimmick, but much better entrance music, and pull on the old Orndorff stlye robe he used to wear.

Im liking roode but he needs to be more menacing . He doesnt come off as a badass . Thats Tnas fault for always having a babysitter like Ray or someone with him . And ditch the suit ............so tired of suits in a wrestling ring
