Fight Night scored a 4.8 rating the week before Trial By Fire in the ratings. This was strong as Fight Night and the FWA moves forward with one brand post the brand merger. A lot of major changes have occurred in the Fantasy Wrestling Alliance and on the PWS Network. FWA programming, which now just includes Fight Night, is consistently the highest-rated television program on the PWS Network.
While the FWA has risen up since the merger, a lot of turmoil has taken place within the network, and it resulted in some changes in FWA land.
The big news out of Trial By Fire was the two World title changes and the Tag Team turmoil match. Chris Kennedy finally lived the dream and became FWA World Champion after uncrowning Duke Drazin. The match was well-received but Kennedy's momemtous win was the highlight and potential feud-ender. However, there are some who feel Duke should have one more title shot, but with Carnal Contendership and the eventual World title-unification match, that might not happen.
Wolf's World Heavyweight title victory marks the end of a short reign for Thomas Princeton. Princeton won the title at Mile High amid a bunch of changes on the Crossfire landscape. However, Wolf had Princeton's number in arguably match of the night. Princeton again is in position to get a rematch but might have to win Carnal Contendership to do so.
Speaking of Carnal Contendership, there are numerous rumors and reports that Ace's High is being scrapped from the 2012 PPV lineup. Matthew Robinson said the decision is not final and if the PPV goes to the wayside in 2012, it will certainly be back in 2013. The reason for the report is due to the end of 2011 issues with the PWS Network and attempts to make sure Back in Business, the biggest event of the year for the FWA and PWS Network, happens in late April or early May.
If Ace's High does not happen, the Carnal Contendership match will still happen. No word yet on whether it would happen at a separate one-match supershow-type event or on a Fight Night leading up to Back in Business.
The final match that received rave reviews, possibly the match of the night by many's standards, was the tag team turmoil match which saw possibly the greatest and highest-competed tag team match in FWA history. Over the Edge had a strong and impressive effort, as did The Cuban Connection. Wolf and Xavier Xander Xerxes also impressed many as a tag team and showed a very strong premier outing for the Great Siege's tag scene outside of the top duo. Crossing Rondo was a pleasent surprise and could be something FWA management revisits in the near future when they are not needed in singles divisions. The only person from the match who was not impressive was Darnell Porter. FWA management though a move to Crossfire would re-ignite his career but it seems Porter is showing the same inconsistency and lack of care that has caused problems his entire career.
Comedy and Tragedy and their skeptic and mysterious characters have the FWA swirling with rumors. Many are wondering who the duo is and the guesses have ranged from Baphomet and Rebel Badass to Charon and Draven St. Germain. Other names guessed by smarks are Rocky Creed and Bullseye Johnson but this is highly doubtful.
Stu St. Clair's feud with Comedy and Tragedy is planned to go into full swing heading into Back in Business. No word yet on who Stu will have team with him but there is a plan to have Stu and a partner face Comedy and Tragedy in a tag team match. It is highly anticipated among FWA management because it allows Stu to stay out of the World title scene while still being relevant and help the tag team scene in a big way.
When Aut Pax Aut Bellum walked away with the gold during the TBF Tag Team Turmoil match and became Tag Team Champions again, many believed it began another reign of terror on the FWA tag team scene. Only two days after, though, reports and rumors surfaced that Dan Ward and Andrew Johnson asked for their contracts with the FWA to be severed. Ward and Johnson work and sign as a package deal, meaning they sign similar contracts and would never work in separate companies. They often hang out off air and after kayfabe is gone. They are very close friends and rose through the wrestling industry together. No word yet if things were worked out between the future-Hall of Fame tag team or not, but the last rumor was that, according to anonymous sources from within the FWA, the duo intentionally broke rules and were ordered by PWS Network authorities to be sent home. No word if they will be at the next Fight Night, but FWA management have made a point to ask for them to return. Of course, considering the duo asked out of their contracts, there is the possibility that they do not return.
Word around the situation is that Ward and Johnson are displeased with some decisions made by the PWS Network. Ward and Johnson play a hand in FWA plannings and at least one scheduled for a future board position on the PWS Network. However, when one well-known board member on the PWS Network, was removed, Ward and Johnson showed extreme displeasure with the move and asked to have their contracts ended and ties with the FWA ended as well. No rumors have surfaced reporting that APAB is displeased with anything FWA-related.
It is unknown what will happen to the tag team titles if APAB are gone permanently. The plan was for Over the Edge to get a one on one match at Back in Business, and many within the FWA feel it is long overdue for them to get a shot. No doubt Over the Edge will be in the mix no matter what.
APAB are not the only FWA wrestlers to have some pull within the PWS Network. Sources say that the following, in no particular order, hold some power: Stu St. Clair, Thomas Princeton, Matthew Robinson, Drew Jolson, Gabby, Chris Kennedy, Devin Golden, and Ryan Rondo all have some power. This is not uncommon since the FWA is the network's biggest money maker.
Alana Alure's championship win at TBF was well-received throughout the internet wrestling community. Dinorah was injured during the match and FWA management are searching for a suitable challenger to Alana for Back in Business. Some were impressed with Jennifer Sky and feel if she continues to improve then it could be a underrated women's title match.
Joey Ortiz has been extremely impressive and, while he could be in line with Juan Lopez for a tag title shot, FWA management want him to defend his TV title at Back in Business. Devin Golden thought of a unique idea that was only done once in recent history, at a WrestleMania between Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho. The plan is for Ortiz, North American Champion Cameron Cross, and Alexx to wrestle a two-fall match. The first fall being for the North American title and the second fall to be for the TV title. There is a possibility for Alexx to walk in with no gold and walk out with two championships. Or there is the possibility for Cross and Ortiz to switch titles. The numerous possibilities within one match has Golden excited and he is proposing the idea to the three competitors to see how it goes over. It's also revisiting the Cross-Alexx feud and beginning a possible Alexx-Ortiz feud.
There were discussions of adding a fourth person into the mix but it is unknown who that could be. Golden is big on XXX and feels that while he has lost some matches recently, it is a growing pain that he must endure as he makes a jump from X-Division landscape to the midcard landscape. Another name thrown into the hat was Zaire Wyoming.
Speaking of Golden, it is not known how his feud with the Great Siege will play out but many like his "war" with the group. Golden defeated XXX by disqualification and he plans to give XXX another shot in the future. His eyes are on Wolf who returns with his own eyes. Golden himself likes his more vicious character and many fans like his return to full-fledged face mode. His defeat of Carmine Reaper resulted in Carmine being put on the shelf for a bit. He is injured and it is not known for how long. Katie Lynn Goldsmith will give an update on the upcoming Fight Night. Many like Wolf's character being a leader of a group and wonder if or when the Great Siege factions will merge into one. Wolf and Xavier Xander Xerxes stand on one side while Zaire Wyoming, Gabby and APAB stand on another.
Tommy Tripper's return was met with excitement within the FWA. Golden is very high on him while other FWA management people are a little more cautious. Golden pushed hard for his first X-Division title reign which ended with little more than a wimper, and Golden wants to take it a little slower this time. However, Ryan Rondo's first X-Division title reign was unimpressive and he turned it around when he returned to the FWA. Same goes for Alexx and numerous other X-Division stars. With the X-Division landscape somewhat thin, Tripper may be one of two options. The other is having juan Lopez get another shot at Rondo. Lopez was the X-Division champion heading into the unification match at TBF but lost to Rondo. Lopez is a strong competitor who everyone is high on.
FWA management are hopeful for Mike Mundane, Josh Hill, and Mac Michaud to continue rising through the ranks and in the minds of people in power. The trio are the future of the X-Division and some hope for them to be ready for title matches by summer so Rondo and Lopez can begin moving up the latter.
