Hulk Hogan Explains Why He Turned Down Lead Role For "The Wrestler"
Posted by: Kenny Williams of WrestlingNewsSource.com on Jan 26 2012

During a recent interview with Digital Spy, Hulk Hogan stated that he was originally given the script for the film "The Wrestler," but turned down the lead role, saying simply that he wasn't right for the movie.

    Hogan further said:

"When the script for The Wrestler kept coming to me I said, 'This movie is so good if you put me in the film as a wrestler people are going to say, "No credibility, Hulk Hogan isn't a good actor", whatever Hollywood thinks of me'. As soon as they put Mickey Rourke in there I knew it had a chance, and he did such a great, great job it relit his career."

I doubt Hogan was ever offered the role. He is full of shit. The role was actually tailored for Nicholas Cage but Daren Aronofsky opted to go with Rourke instead. True story. I followed the pre-production news on that film since it's inception and I can assure you no actual Wrestlers were considered for the part. Hogan was right about one thing though, he doesn't have an credibility as an actor. If only he had realized that in the 80's and 90's. lol.

Agreed. But thank god they didn't go with Cage either because I just don't see how that would have worked at all. Not sure why he was the original choice because I can't see him in the role at all.

Rourke however was damn perfect, so definitely glad he ended up doing had. Had Hogan did it though, man would that have been awful and chessy. :

A lot of ranodm stories that don't seem true half elements of truth to them.

For this one perhaps they were contemlating featuring Hogan in either a cameo or for the re ignited 80's feud?

lol at Hogan. I doubt that he was offered the role simply because when the movie came out, no one remember who Hulk Hogan was.
