what about jericho and edge then? they were as big as orton is now, and wwe always puts a few big names in mitb, because not everyone can fight for the title at mitb.
also you say card filling spot fest, wwe sees it as a platform to elevate a future world champion

Those guys were nowhere near the level Orton is now at that point in time. Jericho was on his way out of the company, his contract was up and he didn't want to re-sign. He was thoroughly mid-card during his RAW run in 2010. Edge was never treated as a top guy on RAW either he made up multi-man main events be it tags, 3 ways or 4 ways. His run was that disappointing he was transferred back to Smackdown because he added nothing to RAW.
MITB hasn't elevated anyone it's just added a shock factor to WWE programming. Everyone who has cashed in MITB have had their title reigns treated as a fluke CM Punk, Swagger, Bryan, Miz etc all were booked like chumps during there MITB induced title reigns and promptly returned to the mid card when there title run ended.
