Default Maria Kanellis Discusses ROH's Status, WWE Using Twitter, Her WWE Release & More

Maria Kanellis Discusses ROH's Status, WWE Using Twitter, Her WWE Release & More
    By Marc Middleton
    Apr 13, 2012 - 8:58:30 AM

    - Former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis recently spoke with the VOC Wrestling Nation in Philadelphia. Here are some highlights:

On ROH’s status: We have already surpassed TNA. We are bringing in new stars and making celebrities out of them. We have the top stars in the world.

On the YES chant: That was started over 2 months ago at ROH; we were surprised that it took that long to catch on there.

On why she came back to wrestling: I took a year off and got the itch. I have always had passion for wrestling; I watched when I was a kid.

On getting released by the WWE: John Laurinaitis called and released me the day after my birthday. I was starting to do more mainstream things and they didn’t want to give me a pay raise. There were tons of opportunities elsewhere. They didn’t want to give me the opportunity to do other things.

On Twitter: I want to come through the screen and strangle Michael Cole. He is not the person that should be talking about trends. ROH is more concerned with who is seeing the show than who is talking about it on Twitter.

Im not sure if ROH passed TNa yet. But they are on their way. They don't concern themselves with everyone else and just try and put on a good show. That is what is great about ROH. They don't care if they ever beat WWE. They just want to have a good wrestling company that makes their wrestlers and ROH itself money. They are a true alternative to mainstream wrestling.

Maria is a bonafide idiot. She has been their a few months is an expert on all things ROH. As much as I dislike TNA, ROH has a ways to go before surpassing them from a media standpoint. And they haven't made celebrities out of ANYONE. ROH does one thing and one thing very good: Putting on some of the best wrestling in the business, not as if Maria has any hand in that. And the YES chants did NOT start in ROH, Brian Danielson (or Daniel Bryan, whatever) got that over as partr of his gimmick. How would it started in ROH? For what reason? People just started randomly chanting "yes?" I have been watching ROH longer than Maria has and I haven't seen that at all. And the line that really goes to show what an egomaniac she is...
"I was starting to do more mainstream things and they didn’t want to give me a pay raise" WTF? The only mainstream she did was celebrity apprentice AFTER she was fired, what exactly was she doing main stream while in WWE to warrant her a pay raise? She was managing Matt Hardy while girls like Gail, Beth and Nattie were working their ass off and she thought she deserved more money than them? Give me a fucking break no wonder Punk dumped her, she is a brain dead bimbo whose only good attributes are a nice ass and some boobies that are almost as fake as she is

Actually i think it picked up steam faster in ROH than in WWE. Fans in ROH started chanting Yes as soon as Danielson starting using it. WWE it started a bit after. And the fans of ROH will never forget Danielson and continue to support him. Which is why they chant it.

Also Maria did Celebrity apprentice and she also made an album. And she only got let go because she didn't want WWE to make money off her album and i think she is started a fragrance line or clothing line.

And she's actually pretty smart. I have a few shoots with her and shes smarter than you are giving her credit for. She didn't let WWE take advantage of her by trying to make money off her album(when they didn't even help make it) and by not allowing her to do outside projects. She wanted to be an independent contractor like WWE claims but WWE doesn't understand that term and think it only applies when its convenient for them. Watch her shoots she far from a bimbo.

I respect your opinion but I must disagree. Even if Yes Yes Yes caught on in ROH before it did WWE, which I don't remember or didn't notice, it still originated from Daniel Bryan. I have seen her Youshoot and she is really good at putting on a good face but some of the things she says is a little out there. I do NOT feel she deserved more money for what she was doing in WWE, which was managing lower-midcarders.

Don't get me wrong, she is hot as hell and is a great valet, but was never a great wrestler so she should stop acting like the authority on ROH, where she has only been for a few months, just because she is the most famous person they have in the house right now.
And like I said, Celebrity Apprentice happened after her release, and even SHE didn't make any money off of that crap album so there is no reason for her to act like a bigger star than she was and demand more money while Gail, Beth and Nattie were working their asses off but struggling to get half the TV time she got in her stupid angles with Matt Hardy, Dolph Ziggler and as Mickie James sidekick during the Laycool feud.

I'm not saying she is the smartest girl in the world but she is far from stupid or dumb. She took a stand and decided she wanted things outside of wrestling run by her and all profits go to her and WWE didn't like that. I also never heard her say anything about wanting more money. From what i have heard and seen in both her shoots was that her contract dispute was all about no healthcare, the status of independent contractor and her outside projects.

Also most valets in WWE today manage mid carders or upper-midcarders except AJ. and that is recent.

And the chant caught on in ROH faster than it did in WWE simply because ROH fans will always support Danielson. But it wasn't like months or anything it was maybe a few weeks. I'm not saying it originated in ROH. Obviously it was in WWE. But the fans reaction to it was more apparent in ROH because of Danielsons history there.

And thinking about it, im not sure why she even mentioned that. It doesn't even matter. BUt as far as her sticking up for ROH, i think its great. I don't even care about the reason why she is doing it. As long as the workers there do it, then good. They need to think and act like a team and that includes everyone from Maria to Kevin Kelly to Grizzly Redwood to Davey Richards.

Maria Kanellis’ release from World Wrestling Entertainment is being seen as a surprise considering that the fans voted her WWE Diva of the Year in an online poll last December not to mention that she will be appearing as a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice, which debuts in two weeks on NBC. She herself has told friends she was blindsided by the release and that she had no reason to believe it was coming. Her departure was said to be due to management’s negative reaction to an interview she did with The Sun this past January where she said she wasn’t sure how much longer she’d stay with WWE because she had outside interests and would like to start a family at some point.“I’m starting to do other things and it’s partially because one day I want to be a mom and I want to get married and you can’t really do that when you’re on the road,” Kanellis told The Sun. “So I’ve got to find a job that will allow me to do that.”

She seems to have a problem with keeping her story straight. She told the Sun she wants to be a mom but she's telling other people that it was because WWE wouldn't let her do other things. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me since Jericho was allowed to make albums and do TV shows. Granted he took some time off to do it, but WWE still allowed him to.

Well she's a ROH employee & actually a top used act (no pun intended LOL) so I don't expect her to do any less than heavily promote the company even if that means stretching the truth, just plain out lying (ROH making celebrities?), or just comes off like she doesn't know what she's talking about (sorry honey, ROH has pushed their product on Twitter too during the shows & PPV's). I'm not gonna get mad at her for that but at the same time that means that I'm not going to take everything she says at face value just like the numerous interviews she does where her story has changed about the conditions under why she's no longer with WWE.

Now addressing the "YES!" chants, the first time I heard them was the the 10th anniversary show & it caught on from there. While it was based on the gimmick of Bryan, they did start in ROH just like how despite the "WHOO!" is based off the gimmick Ric Flair, the crowd starting a "WHOO!" chant every time someone who's the trademark chop started in ECW & caught on from there.
